Technician for Molecular Biology

 INTRODUCTION
Genomics is the study of genomes, the complete set of DNA within a cell of an organism, which uses high throughput sequencing systems and various bioinformatics tools. Advances in genomics have triggered a revolution in systems biology that facilitated the understanding of the complex biological systems and regulatory aspects. The vast wealth of data produced by genomics has helped in understanding the dynamic aspects of genomes such as genome-wide expression and associated regulatory mechanisms. In addition, functional genomics has helped in establishing function-related aspects of the genomes and their correlation with growth, development and stress response of organisms.
As genomics is an emerging field, there is great demand of trained man-power who can understand biological processes through handling BIG DATA and utilize this to establish correlation between different growth parameters and dynamic behaviours of genomes. To carry out innovative research in the field of modern biology, basic training of genomics in early stage of career will have greater impact. There is a large pool of graduate/postgraduate students scattered over all India as well as surrounding countries who lacks basic training in advanced technologies including genomics. Training of these young mind-sets by well-experienced scientists at CSIR-NBRI will help them to grow and even get employment in industries or generate self-employment in the field of genomics and to solve mysteries of biological systems.
Therefore, we propose to develop a Skill Development course entitled "Technician for Molecular Biology”. The proposal is in line with the NSDC mandate of “Creating more non-agricultural jobs under Agriculture Allied services”.

SALIENT FEATURES OF THE COURSE
The skilled personal will get opportunity to understand various methods used in the area of genomics and big data analysis. Course will lead to enhanced understanding in participants of different processes involved at cellular and sub-cellular levels and their in-depth analysis. This will help them in self-employment as well as employment in the various companies in the area of genomics.     - Final examination                                                    :   60 marks

    CERTIFICATION
    Certificate will be issued to the successful candidates by the institute under CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative or ASCI.
